George Snowden Maines, 81, passed away January 24, 2019. A native of Clark County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late James Isaacs Maines, Sr. and Eddie Belle Davis Maines; he was a retired employee of the US Postal Service as well as the SC Department of Corrections; a US Air Force veteran and member of the First Baptist Church of Gowensville. Surviving are his wife, Sue Ellen Miller Maines, of the home; one son, George Martin Maines of Louisville, Kentucky; three brothers, John Maines (Tarsa), Henry Maines (Carrie Hogue) and Earl Maines; two sisters, Mary Brinegar (Paul) and Alberta Clevenger (Ray); two grandchildren, Mary Farmer and Justin Farmer (Caroline) and two great-grandchildren, Maines Farmer and Cannon Farmer.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Laurie Farmer; two brothers, James Maines, Jr. and Joe Maines and two sisters, Kathryn Smith and Pearl Potts and one great-grandson, Riggs Farmer. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. at In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to 2nd Saturday Meal Ministry of First Baptist Church of Gowensville, 5650 N Highway 14, Landrum, SC 29356.
