George Ray Johnson, Jr. age 87, died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at his home in New Bern, NC. Mr. Johnson was born in Griffin, Georgia to the late George Ray Johnson and Pearl Elizabeth Hilliard. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia and later the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington.

He served in the United States Marine Corps in close air support during the Korean War. He later attended UVA on a football scholarship and studied Business Administration. After college, he had a 33 year long career with IBM, which took his family to New York, Raleigh, North Carolina, Jacksonville, Florida and later, Northern Virginia where he embarked on a successful real estate career.

Ray Johnson is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan H. Johnson; son, George Ray, III of New Bern; daughter, Virginia Killinger and her husband Keith of Beaufort; grand-daughter, Blair Kelly and her husband, Marshall, of Chapel Hill; great grand-daughter; Elizabeth Grey; sister, Linda Hock and her husband Ray, of Newport; several nieces and nephews.
