George’s Obituary George Wesley Baskin, Jr., of Pensacola, FL, passed away on February 4, 2019. George is survived by his wife, Blanche Bryant Baskin; his sister-in-law, Peggy Lee Baskin; three nephews, and five nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Wesley Baskin, Sr., and Vera Taylor Baskin; his brothers, Grady and Gene Baskin; his sisters, Nona Myers and Lanell Christopher; two nephews and one niece.

George was born July 4, 1926, in Plainview, Hale County, Texas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and later graduated with a degree in vocal music from Bob Jones College in Cleveland, Tennessee. George married the beautiful Blanche Bryant in 1950, and she was always there for him.

After directing music in churches in Kansas City and Dallas, George began a long career in publishing. He served in sales, marketing, and upper-level administrative positions and worked for Cokesbury, Fleming H. Revell Company, Word Books and Records, Whittemore Associates, University of Oklahoma Press, Acton House Publishers, and The Upper Room. George loved to read, especially politics and religion, and loved debate, travel, and good music.

A private memorial ceremony with family and friends was held on February 16 at the First United Methodist Church chapel on East Wright Street in Pensacola. Donations in George’s name to a favorite charity are welcome. WATERS & HIBBERT FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
