Helen’s Obituary Helen Rose (Herman) McGrath, 98 passed away Friday, February 8, 2019. Helen McGrath was born in Hempstead NY to Mary and Henry Herman on December 8, 1920. She married her beloved Husband Lawrence McGrath on April 5, 1942.

Being a navy wife allowed them to have many adventures and they were world travelers. She was loved her family and taking care of others. She was famous for her corned beef dinners.

Helen cherished her family, friends, and even those she did not know. She was a spitfire and came from a long line of strong women and taught her children to be the same. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Lawrence J. McGrath and daughter Donna Lynn. Survivors include. son, Lawrence J. McGrath, II (Karin) of Covington LA; daughters, Christine McGrath of Pensacola, Mary McGrath Wigg (Peter) of Eastport NY, Loueen McGrath Castleman (Thomas) of Gulf Breeze, Fl and Barbara Downing (Russell) of Pensacola FL; grandchildren, Kim McGrath Ortiz (Segundo), Tiffany Martzall (Jeremy), Shannon Downing, Noah Castleman, Lenna Borkowski (Jeff) and Brant Downing (Shaina) and numerous great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10:00am until the Funeral Service at 11:00am Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Fr. Nicholas Schumm officiating. Graveside service will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. Special thanks to all of those who helped care for her and a special thank you to Phyllis Busbee In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Navy Relief Society.
