Lawrence “Larry”‘s Obituary Lawrence “Larry” Lee Blay, 80, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, February 4, 2019 after a recent illness. Larry was a resident of Bob Hope Village in Shalimar, Florida. Larry was born in Mt.
Clemens, Michigan to Charles Peter and Winifred Irene Wilson Blay on July 30, 1938. He grew up in Mt. Clemens and attended St. Mary’s High School where he met Myra Jean Harper, the love of his life.
Larry joined the United States Navy in 1956 and served on active duty for twenty years. While serving in the Navy, Larry worked as a Tradesman in mechanical and electronic training devices, called TD’s. TD’s worked with Naval flight simulators for all warfare.
He was stationed from coast to coast, from California to Virginia and finally to Pensacola in 1975. He was President of Training Device Association for 20 years, then president emeritus in retirement. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
After retirement from the Navy, Larry served twenty years as a defense contractor in federal Civil Service until his retirement in 1996 in Orlando. His final move was back home to Northwest Florida. Larry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Dave Walters.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Myra Jean Harper Blay; children, Denise Marie (Aubrey) Fountain of Destin, FL, Sheila Blay-Baraga of Portland, OR, Eric Lawrence (Nina) Blay of Pensacola, FL, Daniel James Blay of Pensacola, FL, Pete Simon (Renata) Blay of Jacksonville, FL, and Cherylanne Blay-Marquez of Altamonte Springs, FL; grandchildren, Valerie Ann Watson, Frank Elliott (Stefanie) Watson, Joshua Eric Starr, Jacquelyn Nina (Raymond) Forte, Alexandria O’Connell Blay, Charles Joseph Blay, Addie Jean Collins, Lukas Christian Thanh Blay, Winnie Rose Thoung Blay, Fredy “Jesse” Alexander Blay and Grace Marie Fountain; great-grandchildren, Teresa Marie Forte, Jude Francis Forte, Dominic Xavier Forte, Anya Maia Watson, Molly McSweeney Brown, and Lorelei Marlo Walley; siblings, Dennis (Joan), Michael (Donna), Dave and Teresa Walters; dear friends, Dave and Sharon Graham; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held 2:00pm-4:00pm Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd. , Pensacola, FL 32504, with rosary to be prayed at 2:00pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30am, Monday, February 11, 2019 at The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1212 E. Moreno St., Pensacola, FL 32503, with Msgr. Michael Reed celebrant. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full Navy honors.
The family wants to give special thanks to Vitas and Covenant Care Hospice for their care towards our father. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart School.
