George Witt “Johnny or Chip” Johnson, Jr., our precious Daddy, Papaw, and friend went to be with our Lord and Savior July 17, 2018. He was born in Saltville, VA, November 18, 1954 to the late George Witt Johnson, Sr. and Karleen Bryant Johnson. He was a 1973 graduate of R.B. Worthy High School and a U.S. Navy Veteran where he served on the USS Saratoga (Cv-60).

He was a devout Christian whose love for God always shone through. He was a dedicated member at Grace Christian Fellowship. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a special brother-in-law Kenneth “Jake” Gillespie.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years Norma Gillespie Johnson and special four legged companion, Haley, his son Aaron Johnson and daughter-in-law Amber of Smithfield, VA, daughter Ashley Jones and son-in-law Thomas of Abingdon, VA. The lights of his life, two grandchildren Braden and Emma Jones. Sister Sissy Frye (Dennis) of Glade Spring, VA Brother Scotty Johnson (Jane) of Saltville, VA Sister-in-law Teresa Gillespie of Rich Valley, VA In addition special nieces and nephew Heather Street (Bobby), Jennifer Surber (Jason), and Caleb Frye (Jorden) Special great nephews and niece – Waylon and Whitley Street, Ethan and Jakeb Surber, and Eden Henry.

Two aunts Beulah Bryant and Shirley “Squeek” Haynes (Malcolm) and countless other family members and friends At his request there will be a Graveside service on July 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 1404 Mount Pleasant Drive, Saltville, VA. 24370 with Pastor David Crowe and Pastor Willis Osborne officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Marion V.F.W. Post # 4667 and representatives of the U.S. Navy.

Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Aaron Johnson, Scotty Johnson, Thomas Jones, Dennis Frye, Caleb Frye, Donald Boyer, Jason Surber and Bobby Street. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Grace Christian Fellowship and his former co-workers of Tom’s Creek Prep Plant, Coeburn, VA In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Grace Christian Fellowship Building Fund P. O. Box 1228 Abingdon, VA 24212.
