Obituary of George Swieton HERKIMER – George J. Swieton, age 50, a longtime Herkimer resident, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, July 5, 2018, at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse. Born on February 18, 1968, George is the son of George R. Swieton and Madeline (Lewis) Hunter. After graduating from Herkimer High School, George went on to enlist in the United States Air Force.
Throughout his active duty, he served in Northern Japan, the Philippine Islands, and at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, before receiving his honorable discharge in 1991. At one time George shared in a marriage with the former Heather Polus, and from that relationship came the blessing of their two children. George and Heather maintained a close relationship throughout their lives as both co-parents and close friends.
For over twenty-five years, George has been employed with Fiberdyne Labs in Frankfort as a Project Manager. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and the lasting friendships he made with his co-workers and second family. In his free time, George was an avid outdoorsman.
He loved to ski, camp and kayak, and more recently, enjoyed spending time riding his motorcycle. Above all else, he was a dedicated and adoring father, who had an intense love and sense of pride for his children. His legacy will forever live on through his two children, Alexis Swieton and Justin Swieton, both of Herkimer.
He is also survived by his parents, George and Joan Swieton of Frankfort and Madeline and Stephen Hunter of Holland Patent; his sister, Colleen Swieton and her companion, Dale Greenwood of Cold Brook; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Craig and Jenny Swieton of Weidman, MI and Seth and Meryl Hunter of Billerica, MA; his nephews, Logan Swieton and Rylee Greenwood and his niece, Lily Greenwood. He also leaves his best friends, Mark and Heather Mosny, as well as extended members of the Polus family; and his canine companion, Parker. Friends and relatives are invited to attend George’s visitation on Tuesday afternoon, July 10, 2018, from 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the original Enea Family Funeral Home (FKA Holleran Funeral Service) 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011.
George’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 7:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation, with Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor of St. Francis de Sales Parish, officiating. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
