Obituary for Georgia Ann Birdwell FORT WORTH – Georgia Ann Cooksey Birdwell, 91, life-long resident of Texas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 4, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please support the Alzheimer’s Association or the Diabetes Association Mrs. Birdwell was born April 17, 1927, in Belton, Texas to Mary Jane Cooksey and Finley Cooksey. She graduated from Belton High School in 1943 and continued her education at University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin, where she became a registered nurse.

She moved to Galveston to serve as a head nurse in an obstetrical unit at John Sealy Hospital. She met the love of her life, Dr. Henry V. Birdwell, Jr., and they married in 1951. They were blessed with five children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Birdwell was active in her local school’s Parent Teacher Association for many years, a long-time member of the Tarrant County Medical Auxiliary, Ridglea Country Club and Calvary Bible Church. Her laughter and energy were contagious. She will be remembered most of all for her love of her family, her zest for life and her love of God.

Mrs. Birdwell enjoyed traveling abroad. She especially enjoyed her visits to the Holy Land, Tahiti, Venice, the Greek Islands and Alaska. She was a talented seamstress and sewed many costumes and attire for her children and grandchildren’s events.

She was preceded in death by six siblings. Survivors: Dr. Henry V. Birdwell, Jr., her husband of 67 years; children include, Commander David M. Birdwell, USN (retired) and Cynthia A. Birdwell, Gettysburg, Pa. , Joan Birdwell Reese and James E. Reese, Dallas, Jan Birdwell White and Ron White, Flower Mound, Carol Birdwell, Fort Worth and Becky Birdwell Walker and Mark Walker, Fort Worth; grandchildren, David M. Birdwell II, Philadelphia, Pa.
