OBITUARY Georgia Langston Bigley April 22, 1920 – July 14, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Georgia Cecile Langston Bigley, 98, made her transition from earth to be with her heavenly father, on Saturday, July 14, 2018. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, and in Hospice for a year , Georgia passed peacefully in her sleep at 9:34 AM, in her room at Landon Ridge Assisted Living/Memory Care in Sugar Land Texas. She was born on April 22, 1920 in Sicily Island, Louisiana to William Conrad and Mamie Grace Bass Langston.

She was the fourth child of six and her father gave her and her siblings nicknames. Her’s was “Newt”. After the death of her father, the family stayed in Sicily Island for a while until her mother met and married a Texas oil businessman and he moved the family to Mirando City, Texas.

She finished her education at Mirando City High School, from which she graduated in 1938. Throughout her years in high school, she was very athletic and played many sports such as Tennis, Basketball and Volleyball for which she was the team captain. She was active on the school yearbook.

During her time in high school she was voted best all-around female student. Before finishing high school, she met and married Andrew Jackson Favor, but lived at home until she graduated. Her and A. J. later moved to Corpus Christi, Taxas and had three children, Cecile, Ralph and Andrea.

While Georgia was pregnant with Andrea, A.J. drowned in the bay when a boat he was in along with some other men capsized. Through the years and moving round the state, with the help from family members, she worked and raised her three children, until she met and married Percy Ray Carter in 1950. They settled in Sinton, Texas.

There she worked for the county courthouse in the clerk’s office. In 1954 they had a child together, Linda. Through the years she continued to work and raise her daughter who acquired the nickname “Polly”.

In 1963, the family moved to Corpus Christi minus the three older children who were no longer at home. In the 1960’s she went to work for two business men, the Flato Brothers and began her career as a secretary and bookkeeper. In 1970 she divorced Ray Carter and continued working for the Flato Brothers at the Sheraton Marina Hotel in downtown Corpus Christi as secretary to the general manager and bookkeeper.

In November of 1972 she married Roland Bigley and remained married to him until his death in 2009. She retired from the hotel in the late 1970’s and began working for Mrs. Jane Flato as her personal bookkeeper until 2002. During the time they were married, Roland and Georgia, travelled around the United States and Canada in their RV and on their motorcycle.

They were in a motorcycle club called the “Retreads” which met on the weekends and travelled around Texas with other members. Georgia’s hobbies included gardening, bird watching and sewing, which she dearly loved doing. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for herself and her family.

Georgia and Roland settled in Raisin, Texas in 2000 until his death in 2009. While in Raisin, Georgia and Roland were members of numerous community and senior social clubs in the Victoria area. In 2010, Georgia sold her home and moved into the Homewood Living community in Victoria.

Georgia was then diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2012. Georgia leaves her three daughters, Cecile Favor Pierce and her husband Joe of Houston, Texas; Andrea Favor Zdansky and her husband George of Victoria, Texas; and Linda “Polly” Carter Powers and her husband Glen of Rosenberg, Texas. She also leaves nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, twenty great-great grandchildren, one brother Joe Langston, a cousin and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roland Bigley in 2009, her son Ralph Ellis Favor in August 2016, a great-grandson, Justin Taylor on February 10, 2018; her parents; sisters Tonyeletta Todd, Mamie Grace Killingsworth; brothers Toxie Conrad Langston and Clarence Langston and several nieces and nephews as well as cousins. Funeral services will be held on July 19, 2018 at the Settegast-Kopf Funeral Home at 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. Visitation will begin at 1 PM and the service to start at 2 PM.

The burial and graveside service will be held at the Old Pine Hill Cemetery at Highway 913 in Sicily Island, Louisiana at 3 PM on Saturday, July 21, 2018. The family wishes to thank the staff at Landon Ridge Assisting Living/Memory Care for providing care and comfort to Georgia. We also wish to thank Brookdale Hospice for their services over the last year.
