Luebbering, age 80, of Jefferson City, formerly of St. Thomas, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Villa Marie in Jefferson City. He was born in Jefferson City on September 30, 1938, son of the late Henry and Christine (Strope) Luebbering. On October 4, 1958, in Taos, Gerry married Patricia (Pat) Prenger, who survives at their home.

In addition to his loving wife, Pat, he is also survived by three children, Dale Luebbering (Terri) of Jefferson City, Janet Laughlin (Pete Hentges) of Russellville, and Lori Kreutzman (Dave) of Urbandale, Iowa; four grandchildren, Ashley Kollmeyer (Nick), Chris Laughlin (Kelsey), Kyle Luebbering (Savannah), and Paul Kreutzman (fiancée Kyla); five great-grandchildren, William and Isabella Luebbering, Carter and Logan Laughlin, and Clara Kollmeyer; and one brother, Ken Luebbering (Robyn) of Jefferson City. Gerry was employed by Richard A. Howerton, Inc. from 1974 until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of St. Thomas Knights of Columbus since 1957 and served as Grand Knight from 1989 to 1991.

He was Financial Secretary for 17 years and District Deputy from 1992 thru 1996. Gerry was named Outstanding District Deputy from 1992 thru 1996. Gerry was elected three terms to the Blair Oaks school board from 1969 until 1978 and served as President 1973 to 1978.

He was instrumental in starting the Blair Oaks football program in 1974. Gerry played Osage League baseball, the highlight of his career was being named the starting shortstop for the league all-star game in 1957. He coached girls’ softball and Men’s Osage League baseball for a number of years.

His favorite motivation speech was “foot on the throat”. Gerry was a diehard Cardinal baseball and MU Tiger fan. If there was a loss it had to be faulty officiating.

He truly loved camping and trout fishing at Montauk state park where he caught three lunkers in his Montauk fishing career. Yosemite Sam and Fog Horn Leghorn were his all-time favorites and if you know Gerry’s pranking personality you will understand his connection. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas with Fr.

Stephen Jones and Fr. Don Antweiler officiating. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., on Monday, March 4, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas. Memorial contributions are suggested to be used as the family wishes.
