Obituary for Gerald Rickard Gerald W. Rickard, 73, of Henrietta Boulevard, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Tuesday evening, September 4, 2018 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. Born in Cobleskill, NY on September 24, 1944, he was the son of the late Clarence and Margaret Fitzgerald Rickard. Gerald received his education in the Cobleskill school system and graduated from Cobleskill High School in 1962.

He was an honorably discharged United States Army veteran, serving his country in Viet Nam from 1965 to 1967. Gerald was employed at General Electric Company in Schenectady as a plumber and steam fitter, retiring in 2008 after 42 years. In his youth, Gerald was a guide at Howe Caverns.

He was a member of the National Association of Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local Union 128. He also enjoyed working in his flower garden, hunting and fishing, and around his house. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching the New York Yankee’s and NASCAR.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Faber who he married on May 24, 1970, one son Scott M. Rickard (Crystal), a grandson, Scott M. Rickard Jr., all of Amsterdam and many nieces, nephews, cousins and his great grand puppy, Sara. Gerald was also predeceased by one brother and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY. Calling hours are Monday, September 10, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary. Memorial gifts in Gerald’s name may be made to Amsterdam Dialysis Center.
