Geraldine Bess Hines was born on November 22, 1941 in Hartsville, SC. She was the loving daughter of the late Emmett H. and Mary A. Bess and the sister of the late Henry Bess. Geraldine received her education in the Darlington County public school system and graduated from Butler High school.

Geraldine furthered her education at the St. Phillips Nursing School in Richmond, Virginia, after which she became a homemaker and later worked as a doctor’s receptionist in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Upon her return to Hartsville, she worked at several food service restaurants in town and remained a long-standing member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Surviving to cherish her memories are her three children, Gerald E. Hines of Hyattsville, Maryland, Jacqueline (Christopher) Lynch, of New York, New York, Paula Y. Hines of Washington, D.C.; a grandson, and other family and friends.
