OBITUARY Gertrude C. Turnquist September 10, 1920 – July 16, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Gertrude Christine Turnquist “Trudie”, aged 97, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully July 16, 2018. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1920 to the late Daniel and Fannie Bergsma. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years Alfred G. Turnquist.

Surviving are her children; Douglas (Anne) Turnquist, David (Sharon) Turnquist, Steven (Carla Jo Compton) Turnquist, Lynn (Randy) Lawrence, Charles (Janice) Turnquist, Mark and (Jill) Turnquist and special daughter Darlene Hansen. She also leaves many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her brother Daniel Bergsma and many nieces and nephews. Trudie had been an active member at Faith Lutheran Church and was in the Ladies Auxiliary at the Casino Club.

At 16 years of age, during the Great Depression, she happily sacrificed her schooling and joined her family working in their business, Bergsma Bakery, as the head clerk. Most of all, she will be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11 am Friday, July 20, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church (2740 Fuller Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505) with Pastor Kevin Sullivan officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-8 pm at the Reyers North Valley Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral service at church. Contributions may be made to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook SE, Suite 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546).
