OBITUARY Gilbert Omar JOHNSON July 28, 1949 – December 12, 2018 Gilbert Omar Johnson, 69, passed away on Wednesday, December 12th, 2018. He was born to Samuel and Lurvida (Gilbert) Johnson on July 28th, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Morgan Park High School in Chicago.

Gilbert served our country in the United States Marines from 1967 to 1970 during the Vietnam Era. He received a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. After, Gilbert worked at USPS in Kokomo for 9 1/2 years, until he became disabled.

Gilbert enjoyed playing chess and shooting pool. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan. Gilbert was a good soul and loved people.

He had a great sense of humor and truly loved his family. Gilbert will be missed by all who knew him. Gilbert leaves behind his siblings Samuel K. Johnson of St. Louis, MO; Daro (Celestine) Johnson of Kokomo, IN; Sandra (John) Smith of Chicago; and Doreen (Derek) Smith of Chicago, IL; several nieces and nephews and host of family.

Gilbert is preceded in passing by his parents; 4 sisters Winona C. Robinson, Eudora Ann Johnson, Kyle B. Smith, and Opal Z. Johnson; and his best buddy, Brownie. A private family memorial service will be held on a later date. Family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Northwoods Village, now Five Star, for their compassion and care.
