DaCosta for 58 years died peacefully, Monday, January 14, 2019 at home surrounded by her family. Born on Sao Miguel Island, Azores she was the daughter of the late Antonio Pimentel and Maria dos Santos (Saeta) Pimentel. She lived in Pawcatuck since 1980.

Gilda was a homemaker to her 10 children. Amongst her many commendable qualities, she will always be remembered for her selflessness and unconditional love for her family. In addition to her passion for singing and dancing to traditional Portuguese music, she looked forward to family gatherings every weekend.

Gilda leaves behind her husband, her nine children, Maria Madalena Martins (Emanuel) of Pawcatuck, Jose Costa (Leonor) of the Azores, Antonio Costa (Sandra), Gilda Ruela (Joao) and Mario Costa (Nelia) all of Pawcatuck; Duarte Costa (Maria) of the Azores, Ruth DaCosta of Pawcatuck, Analia Krzyzaniak (Joseph) of Pawcatuck and Marco Costa (Heather) of Waterford; three sisters and a brother; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three brothers-inlaw and a sister-in-law. She was predeceased by an infant son, Rui Alexandre DaCosta. Calling hours will be held Friday, January 18th from 4-8 pm at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 Mystic.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, at 10:00 am at St. Mary Church Stonington. Following the mass, she will be buried at St. Michael Cemetery, in Pawcatuck. Reception to follow.

Per request of deceased please wear color in lieu of black. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the St. Michael’s Capital Campaign Fund 60 Liberty St. Pawcatuck, CT. 06379 or to American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 15829 Arlington,VA 22215.
