Obituary for Glen “Bud” Buelen Glen (Bud) R. Beulen Jr., age 89, of Berlin, died peacefully at home on Friday, January 4th, 2019. He was born on July 30th, 1929 in Oshkosh to Glen Sr. and Viola (Cartwright) Beulen. Glen Sr. called him his little buddy, nicknaming him “Bud”.

Driving through Berlin with his best friend Claude Benedict one fine day, they spotted four girls on the bridge, one being Rosalie Piotrowski. He married her on Sept 3rd, 1949 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Berlin, WI, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Fran and Eugene Bednarek. As a child, Bud yodeled in a Blue Grass band with his aunt Dolores Hedges, uncle Willie Cartwright, and uncle Jerry Cartwright, eventually traveling to WLS in Chicago.

His interests in airplanes were a result of watching Steve Wittman work on his airplane. He was the only “kid” who would keep his hands in his pockets. As a teenager, Bud served in the Civil Air Patrol at Wittman Field.

Later he served many years in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. In his early years, Bud also worked as a photographer for Mr. Miles Kimball, and later for Mr. Marcus at the Ripon Theater. Bud moved his family to Milwaukee while working for Kramp Construction.

He retired from the Pabst Brewing Company in Milwaukee, after 23 years in the Bottle House. He moved back to Berlin after retiring, and in true Bud fashion, worked at the Barrel Haus, the Berlin Journal, and Old Abe’s Antiques. Bud loved to travel, taking Rosy, their Mom’s, six children, numerous nieces and nephews, and eventually grandchildren across the country, from Catalina Island to Disney World.

He loved his trucks, car wax, and a polish rag. He was a ‘jack of all trades’, which included carpentry, woodworking, plumbing, drawing, art, photography, automobiles, and genealogy. In 2007 Bud suffered his first of many severe strokes, and his daughter helped him get through his first recovery.

He then came back home in Berlin, and in 2012 his son Dan became his sole caregiver. Bud was preceded in death by Rosalie, his parents, Glen and Viola, his sister Verna, and his brothers Alan and Richard. Bud is survived by sisters, Pat Mellenthin, Mary Roberts; brother, David (Joyce) Buelen; children, Dan, Joe (Kathy), Deb, Bill, Tim, Ken; in-laws, Alice (Ervin) Fay, Norby Piotrowski; his grandchildren, Jason, Aaron (Alisa), Jolie, Scott (Melissa), Sean (Carly), Ashley (Matt), Arielle (Ron), Evan (Esther), Heidi, and Elliott (Crystal); 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a good and loving man and we miss him dearly. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Glen “Bud” Buelen please visit our Sympathy Store. Upcoming Events Visitation JAN 12.
