OBITUARY Glen Edward Polk Jr. February 18, 1963 – September 12, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Glen Edward Polk Jr. began his journey in Bay City, Texas on February 18, 1963. His parents are Glen Edward Polk Sr. and Bobby Ruth Polk and is the oldest of five children. His siblings are Felton, Hollis, Gregory, and Kenny Polk.
Soon after, the family relocated to Houston, Texas; where he was nurtured into a resilient leader that we all knew him to be. At the young age of 12, Glen took on the responsibility and strength of the big brother role after their father’s untimely death. Glen willingly picked up the torch exemplifying the power of education, work ethics, respect, honor and dignity.
He attended Virgil I. Grissom Elementary, Robert D. Dowling Middle School, and graduated from Westbury Senior High School in 1981. There was no doubt he would pursue a career having the best interest for others. He obtained a BBA in marketing from Sam Houston State University in 1985 and pledged Alpha Greek Fraternity, the “Undisputed Champions” Line in fall 1983.
His passion for having his brothers succeed was so strong that they too followed his footsteps in attending Sam Houston University. Glen met the love of his life Elizabeth Lampkin in Dallas. They married after moving to San Antonio on June 29, 1991.
Through this blissful union they were blessed with three children: Darrell Lampkin Polk, Christopher Rashaud Polk, Jazmyne Elizabeth Polk. He began his career in the insurance industry working for Atlanta Life Insurance and later American General Servicing Agent, totaling thirty two years in the industry. He received numerous awards throughout his career including: President Trophy, National Leadership Club in Puerto Rico, Central Region Office Super Week Leadership, Leadership Club Career Service, and South Texas Group.
Glen had so much love for his family that every family gathering was always joyous. Every place he went to, or every person he met, cherished, loved, and respected him. Weekly, those close to him would gather and witness his friendly competitive dominos and poker moments.
Although Glen was a man of little words, hearing him say “I’m a bad man,” he walked the walk of a gentle giant. He brought a smile to everyone he encountered and was honest, helpful, righteous, giving, caring, hardworking, but most importantly always himself. He was the calm soul in the midst of chaos, the gentle breeze on a hot day, a voice of reason when nothing made sense, and peace when there was none.
He lived a respectable life and encouraged others to follow. He was handed a torch at a young age, and with that made many people proud and pushed them to be the men and woman they are today. That torch stayed lit, even after his passing, his zest for life and making others a better person and achieving goals still burns.
He will always be loved and is truly missed.
