Glenna’s Obituary Glenna June Wright, 84, passed from this life on January 12, 2019. Glenna was born May 19, 1934, in Durant, Oklahoma, to Carl and Laverne Anderson. She graduated from Durant High School in 1952, and Southeastern State College in 1957 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Education and Home Economics.
While attending high school, Glenna met the love of her life, Gordon Wright. They married on July 9, 1954, in Durant and were blessed with three sons. Glenna’s marriage to Gordon marked the start of an adventurous time in her life.
The young couple moved to Dallas where Glenna worked while Gordon attended Baylor Dental School. From Dallas, she and Gordon were stationed at the U.S. Naval Base on Guam, M.I. The couple also had brief stops in San Diego, CA, and Corpus Christi, TX, before returning to Durant in 1960 where Glenna helped Gordon establish a successful dental practice serving as office manager until the couple retired in 2000. Glenna was a lifetime deaconess in First Christian Church where she was active in CFW Rebekah’s Circle, served as Memorial Fund chairman, and sang in the choir.
She was also a member of Chapter DJ, PEO Sisterhood, Fortnightly Study Club, and several bridge groups where she developed lifelong friendships. Glenna cherished her family and friends and jumped at any opportunity to open her home and bring those close to her together for a celebration. From family holiday gatherings, bridge club meetings, dinner clubs, church get-togethers, wedding and baby showers for friends, no gathering was too large or small, and each event was well decorated and well documented with multitudes of photographs which continued to bring her joy.
Glenna was a great cook and homemaker; she had a penchant for collecting antiques and traveling, and she had a heart for serving others. Glenna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Carl Anderson. She established a true legacy of love and leaves behind sons David and wife Kathy of Allen, Texas, Steve and wife Pat of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Kevin and wife Tina of Oklahoma City; three granddaughters, Shelby Lynch and husband Taylor of Oklahoma City, Mackenzie of Dallas, and Carlee of Oklahoma City; and one grandson, Cooper of Oklahoma City.
She is also survived by two sisters, Rosellen Carolan and Judy Long, many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends. A memorial service celebrating Glenna’s life will be held March 2, at 1:00 at the First Christian Church, Durant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Glenna’s name to the First Christian Church, 301 N. 3rd Avenue, Durant, Oklahoma 74701.
