Gloria was born on September 9, 1951 in Houston, Texas to Clyde and Marjorie Skidmore. One of the most celebrated facts about her birth was that she was born on the 9th hour of the 9th day of the 9th month. She weighed 9 Ibs, 9oz.

There were 9 children in her father’s family and she was the 9th grandchild born. Later in life, she also had a grandchild that shared her love of 9’s as she was born on 9/9/09. To top everything off, she was blessed with a total of 9 grandchildren.

Gloria graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1969 and began her college education immediately following at Oklahoma Baptist University. Her career began as a teller at Bank of America followed by transcription work at Cal State Bakersfield. In the winter of 1973 she met and fell in love with Wayne Richardson.

After a brief six month courtship they were married on April 6, 1974. Wayne’s work with PG&E and other utilities took them all over the state of California and led to living and working in Alaska. Gloria worked as a preschool director at Faith Daycare and Learning Center and also as an executive secretary and HR assistant at Municipal Light and Power.

From there, Wayne’s work led them to Washington, New Mexico and then back to Bakersfield. Because of her great love for him, she supported and encouraged him with every move to a new location. Gloria was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother, always putting family and faith first.

Her love of singing throughout her life led her to participate in choirs, sing solos, and perform special music with her children as well. Her voice was as beautiful as her sweet spirit. Although she struggled with many physical challenges in her latter years, her faith remained strong and she rarely complained.

When asked how she would want to spend her final days her immediate response was, “With love”.
