MANTUA Gloria A. Howard Alger, 91 years of age, departed this earthly life on Thursday December 13, 2018, after a lengthy battle with Lymphoma. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Beulah (Graham) Parker, of Mantua, Ohio. Gloria was born in the family home at Second and East Prospect St., in Mantua, Ohio, on November 26, 1927.
She moved to Mantua Township in 1947, where she lived and loved in the same house for 71 years. Survived by loving children: Michael (Margaret) Howard of Ravenna; Nancy (Michael) Tafel of Hiram; Patricia (Mark) Rohrbaugh of Garrettsville: Philip (Kathy) Howard of Ravenna. Also survived by stepchildren: David (Ruth) Alger; Richard (Kathy) Alger; and Jayne (William) Reaser, all of Ravenna.
To cherish and memory are her grandchildren: Michele Mesaros of Lorain; Kevin Mesaros of Seattle; Staci (Curt) Bolyard of Ravenna; Jessika (Ron) Ferrell of Mogadore; William Brion of Cuyahoga Falls; Katelyn (Cory) Mayhugh of Ravenna; Joshua ( Rebeckah) Howard of Ravenna; Jordon Howard of Ravenna; Kearany Howard of Ravenna; step-grandchildren: Kristie (Jay) Hebert of Cleveland; Zachary (Deanna) Alger of Ravenna; Kelly (Jessica) Alger of Ravenna; Mallory (Ryan) Hall of Randolph; Morgan (Andrew) Kluge of Ravenna. Also survived by 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear childhood friend, Nancy (Johansen) Lamb of Cincinnati, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death first husband William H. Howard in 1991; second husband William D. Alger in 2013; sisters Evelyn Ebersold and June Mesaros. Gloria joined Mantua Center Christian Church in 1955, where she became very active through the years in many positions. She was a 4-H advisor when her daughters were young, and taught many young ladies in Mantua the fine art of sewing clothing, and cooking delish and nutritious meals.
She was a past member of the Mantua Grange; the Mantua Garden Club; and The Mantua Historical Society. After the death of her first husband she volunteered at RMH, which she enjoyed until she became ill in 2015. Gloria loved to travel, and enjoyed all 50 states as well as many Canadian Provinces.
She also embarked on several cruises to many exotic destinations, including the Panama Canal. In early years she and her family were members of the local camping club, and enjoyed camping in all manner of weather and in campers that ranged from primitive to the 32’ motor home that she enjoyed in later years. Gloria asked that donations be made to Mantua Center Christian Church for the new addition, or to cancer research.
Her hope is that someday there will be an end to this devastating disease. Visitation will be Sunday December 16, 2018 at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service, 4668 Pioneer Trail at the corner of St. Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255 from 2:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. where her funeral service will be held Monday December 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Officiating will be Rev.
Chad Delaney. Final resting place will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Township, Ohio. A memorial service for Gloria will be announced at a later date to be held at the church with a luncheon served after the memorial in the fellowship hall.
