Gloria Holladay Krug of Bend, passed away quietly at her home on November 26, 2018. She was 92. A gathering for remembrance and reconnection will take place January 5, 2019 from 1:30-3:30 PM at Fox Hollow Independent and Assisted Living, located at 2599 NE Studio Road in Bend, Oregon Gloria was born September 10, 1926 in Montesano, Washington, the daughter of Paul and Teresa (Learned) Holladay.

She graduated from Ballard High in Seattle, WA; then went on to major in Communication at the University of Washington. She could read a bedtime story like nobody else. After college, she pursued a Master’s degree in Christian Education from San Anselmo Theological Seminary where she met her husband, Charles Donald Krug.

They were married on May 20, 1953 in Seattle, Washington. Her greatest passions were art and inspiring creativity in children. Nothing put a spark in her eyes like seeing the excitement of a young child discovering pottery or finger painting.

And nothing irked her more than the creativity stifling lines of a coloring book. She taught at Lynch Elementary School and was a part time art teacher in the Bend-La Pine school district. She had numerous creative pursuits throughout her life including but not limited to Ukrainian eggs, miniature houses, Egyptian paste beads, driftwood art, costuming and batik banners.

Most notably, she was an accomplished and prolific potter/sculptor. She founded the Raku Club of Central Oregon. Her main hobby was bird watching, which greatly impacted her artwork.

She was a member of the Audubon Society and always had several artistic bird feeders around her backyard. She even built a Japanese pond to attract water birds. Other interests were politics, the perfect lemon meringue pie and mixing metaphors such as “that’s no skin off my teeth”, and “that really throws a monkey in the wrench”.

She will be missed by many but none more than her husband Don Krug and her four children Paul (Sue) Krug, Art (Katherine Ross) Krug, Linda Krug (Jim) Porzelius, and Gary (Holly) Krug. She is also survived by three grandsons, Joel Krug, Kyler Porzelius and Liam Krug, two granddaughters, Lisa (Chris) Mulder and Tessa Porzelius, and a great-granddaughter, Alice Gloria Mulder. The family would like to thank Partners in Care Hospice and the caregivers at Fox Hollow for their compassionate care of Gloria.
