Gordon (Gordie)’s Obituary Gordon “Gordie” Birkholz, 90, died April 29, 2019, of heart failure at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 7, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 E. Avenue C, Bismarck, with Rev. Jon Splichal Larson officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Gordie was born December 15, 1928, in Krem, ND, the son of Art and Rosalie Birkholz.

He attended rural school by horseback. Gordie joined the Army artillery and served in Korea from 1949 to 1953 and was honorably discharged. He married the love of his life, Kathy Reiger of Devils Lake, ND, in 1959, and to this union had three children, Melissa, Doug, and Darcy.

Gordie loved fishing, bowling, dancing, old cars, roller skating, coffee with friends at the Little Cottage and Kroll’s Diner. His passion was excavating, bull dozers and other heavy equipment. Gordie is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Melissa (Brad), MN, Darcy, Bismarck, and Doug (Penn), Bismarck.

He was so proud of his three grandchildren, Tyler (Brie) a nurse at Mayo, McKay a dental assistant and personal trainer, and Mitchell a packaging engineer. Gordie is also survived by three sisters and four brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and four brothers.
