Coquille Indian Tribal Member Gregory Mark Mecum (Red), passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side. He was a loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Mark was born to Donald F Mecum and Pauline A Lisac Mecum on Oct 2nd 1949 in Oregon City, Oregon.

He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School for eight years and graduated from Clackamas High School in 1967 where he played football, track, was a member of the Ski Club, and Alpine Club when he climbed Mt. Hood. .

He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army for nine years. After the Army he obtained his Bachelor Degree from Portland State University. He married his high school sweetheart Joanne L Young on June 8, 1970.

For 48 years they enjoyed a wonderful life that included family, friends, travel and lots of fun filled times. Mark worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years and retired as a Letter Carrier from University Station. He is survived by his wife Joanne Mecum; three sons Eric, Philip and Jason Mecum; grandson Zachary Mecum; his brothers Christopher, Dennis, Shadowhawk and sister Kathy Mecum; along with many cousins, nephews and nieces.

On Friday, January 25th the following services will be held – Catholic Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie at 10:30 am; Military Honors and Committal at Willamette National Cemetery at 12:30 pm; Memorial Reception and Celebration of Life at The Monarch Hotel, Happy Valley, at 2:30 pm. Gregory’s family will be forever grateful for the skilled and loving care provided from Kaiser Hospital, Hospice and Palliative Care. Though he will be greatly missed, he is now in the strong and loving arms of the Lord and with his family and friends whom he longed to see again.
