Gregory J Cowan July 20, 1957 – May 12, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Memorial Donation Gregory John Cowan, age 61, of Mauston, Passed away on May 11th 2019. He was born July 20th, 1957 in Mauston, WI, the son of John Paul and Evelynn (Pfaff) Cowan. After graduating from Mauston High School in 1975, Greg was united in marriage to Barbara Craine on September 25th, 1976.

He worked at Doyle Handymark before working for Jim Kranz as a plumber where he earned his Journeyman license. He then went to work at Mauston Plumbing and Heating before getting his Master Plumbers license and starting his own business, Cowan Plumbing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with family and friends,having long sit-down chats about everything and anything, the occasional round of golf, and hobby farming.

He was a volunteer fireman for the Mauston Fire Department for 28 years before retiring, but still continued to help with the annual Chicken BBQ. He actively volunteered at his Parish, St. Patrick Catholic Church, helping over the years with different events at the annual Fall Festival, being a member of the Building and Grounds Committee, Ushering, and fixing any plumbing needs that would arise. He enjoyed playing cards and working on and driving his IH tractors.

He will be remembered for his animated story-telling, jokes,listening to his Classic Rock a little too loud,his infectious laugh, his Irish pride, and love for his kids and grandkids. Greg is survived by his wife Barb, his children Jaime (Adam) Pouillie, Patrick (Megan) Cowan, Lisa (Brad) Vinopal and Shannon Cowan (boyfriend Brandon Feit), his grandchildren Makenna and Ellie Pouillie, and Ryleigh and Toby Vinopal, and his mother Evelynn. He is further survived by his sister Pam (Randy) Hartje, nieces Courtney and Brittney, Sister-in-law Joyce Carpenter, nieces and nephews Crystal, Chuck, Nick, Kelly and Justin, Brother-in-law Richard (Kathy) Craine and nephew Andy.

He was preceded in death by his father JP, mother and father-in-law Gerald and Shirley Craine and sister-in-law Sandra Craine. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2019. Visitation for Greg will be Sunday, May 19, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church from 3:00-7:00 p.m., and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be donated to organizations at a later time.
