Glasner “Jug” passed away January 29 at the Fernley Eastates Assisted Living Center. He was 95. He was born in White Rock, South Dakota, graduated high school at age 16 and enlisted into the Army and WWII at 20.

The 20th Armored Division of the 7th Army was activated March 1943, that same month Jug enlisted. He became part of that division assigned to Co. C, 27th Tank Battalion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, training ground for tankers. Jug quickly made sergeant and tank commander.

The Division was later sent to the European front and was one of three divisions that liberated Dachau. When that war ended they were sent to Camp Cooke, California to await shipment to the Pacific Theatre. Fortunately, the atom bombs ended the war and the Division was deactivated in early 1946.

He married Elaine B. Lund in December, 1944 at Fort Campbell and when the war ended returned to Minneapolis and his job as a welder and sheet metal worker at Dispatch Oven. They grew tired of the Minnesota winters and moved to So. California in 1953, where he worked for Harbor Oil Co. maintaining and constructing gas stations.

That urban sprawl also grew tiresome, so Christmas vacation of 1959 was spent moving to Yerington, Nevada. Quite a different environment for his three daughters: Linda, age 13; Bonnie, age 9 and Becky, age 5. His first job in Yerington was at the Anaconda Copper mine working as the construction foreman on the flotation plant.

In 1963 he became a licensed general contractor doing residential and commercial remodels and custom homes as Glasner Construction. He was a long time member and past president of the local Lions Club. Elaine passed in 1983 and Jug began to hunt more.

He became pretty serious about the Big Horn Sheep Grand Slam and achieved it. His last hunt was when he was 83 and he was still applying for hunts at 92! Jug is survived by his daughters: Linda Waddle, Bonnie Hoevel and Becky Goodwill; his sisters, Arlene Stedman and Bonnie Stout; his grandchildren, Philip Hoevel, Darren Hoevel, Zack Waddle, Amber Waddle Allmon and Steven Heddy and five great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington on Saturday, February 9 at 11 a.m. followed by refreshments at Dick and Becky Goodwill’s home (196 Hwy 208).
