West Brookfield – Gwendolyn K. (Demas) Locke, 85, of West Brookfield died on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center with her family by her side. She leaves her ten children, Anita Bermudez of Ware, Jesse Locke of West Brookfield, Frederick Locke of Bangor, ME, Shari Jones and her husband James, and John Locke and his wife Paula of Lubec, ME, Marla Lyons of Ware, Rebecca Mason and her husband Raymond of West Brookfield, Lisa Gilman and her husband Kenneth of Brookfield, Kerri Tinker of West Brookfield, and Franklin Locke and his wife Amanda of North Port, FL; two sisters, Linda Soboleski and her husband John of Spencer and Carol Lopez and her husband Charles of CA; twenty-eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John H. Locke in 2004, her brother Jimmy and her sister Bonnie.

Gwendolyn was born in Montpelier, VT, daughter of the late Elton F. and Florence E. (Russell) Demas. Gwendolyn was a homemaker, staying home and caring for the most precious things in life, her ten children. Later in life she became a cook at Phinney’s Seaview Restaurant in Lubec, ME for 10 years.

She enjoyed camping at Somerset Airfield in the Green Mountain National Forest near Shaftsbury, VT with her husband and kids. This became a big part of their summers, eventually leading to the purchase of their RV. Gwendolyn also enjoyed dancing, playing cribbage, gardening, crocheting & knitting, and reading.

A Funeral Service for Gwendolyn will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 E Main Street, West Brookfield. Calling hours will be held from 9:00 to 11:00AM prior to the service. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery in Rutland.
