Gwendolyn D. “Lyn” (Downie) FitzGerald, 83, of Gloucester, wife of the late Charles V. “Woofy” FitzGerald, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019 surrounded by her family at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. She was born in New York City, NY on July 10, 1935 daughter of the late Malcolm and Helen (Subach) Downie. Lyn was a graduate of West Springfield High School, Class of 1953 and also of Newton Wellesley School of Nursing in 1956, where she worked as a nurse for many years.

Lyn worked as the TV hostess at Addison Gilbert Hospital for 13 years and later at Beverly Hospital for 4 years. But most recently, she worked as a Home Health Aide from 1992 to 2013. Lyn was a member of the Rockport Duplicate Bridge Club for over 30 years and was an active member of the Bass Rocks Golf Club having served on several Ladies Boards there.

She also was a member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club for many years. Lyn loved the Arts and Music and visiting museums with her daughter Laura. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Char FitzGerald and his wife Nancy of Lunenburg, MA; her daughter, Laura FitzGerald of Cambridge; 2 granddaughters, Nicole FitzGerald of RI, Kayla Nicolle and her husband William of CT; great-grandson, Domenic Coccia; her sister, Dorothy Demers and her husband Paul Busch of CA; her brother, George Downie of W. Springfield, MA; her loving companion, Sam Nicastro of Gloucester and many friends. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There will be no visiting hours and the burial will be held privately.
