Hari (Hryc) Kasian died peacefully on December 4, 2018 at Homeland Center in Harrisburg, Pa just a few minutes after a visit by his wife of 58 years Joanna Kasian (Buczek) also a resident of Homeland Center. Hari was born on August 24, 1924 ethnically and proudly Ukrainian in Dachnow, Poland. As a result of the politics and devastation of World War II, Hari was prevented from returning home and ultimately immigrated to the United States in 1954 as a Displaced Person (DP) with his then 5 year old son Walter from his first marriage.

The United States welcomed him with open arms and opportunity. Hari worked several jobs before working for many decades as a weaver at Victor Balata Belting Co. in Easton, PA. He was a member, treasurer and president of the now closed American Ukrainian Citizens Club in West Easton, PA and attended the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church also in West Easton.

Hari was keenly interested in world and national politics and had an encyclopedic mind for history and in particular World War II which he witnessed and survived. He was fluent in 6 languages. Hari held a core belief that every generation should have an opportunity to “do better” than the last and actively promoted this by his deeds.

Hari kept a bountiful vegetable garden that he tended to with great care and was an expert hobbyist in all building trades with a goal of functionality over aesthetics. Hari was a devoted grandfather to his 5 grandchildren who gave him many years of joy. He is survived by: his wife Joanna, sons Walter Kasian, Dean Kasian (Jan Mahar) of Baltimore, MD; daughters Lisa Bennett (Don Bennett) of Doylestown, PA and Susie Blanton (Mike Foerster) of Camp Hill, PA; grandchildren Nicholas Kasian Bennett, Andrew Kasian Bennett, Natalie Kasian Blanton, Erik Kasian Blanton and Olivia Kasian Bennett as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Ukraine, Poland and Kentucky, USA.

He was predeceased by his parents and all his brothers and sisters. A Funeral Service will be held at 11am Saturday in the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., 2101 Northampton Street, Wilson Borough. Call Saturday 10-11am in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Offer online condolences at www. strunkfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in Hari’s memory be made to Homeland Center, 1901 North Fifth Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102-1510.
