Harold C. (Jim) Jameson, Jr., 89, of Chester Hill, Chester, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born in West Springfield, Mass. on February 21, 1929, the beloved son of the late Harold C. Jameson and Virginia M. (Douglas) Jameson.
Jim leaves behind his wife and best friend, Barbara L. (Longey) Jameson whom he married on September 16, 1950, they were blessed with over 68 years of happiness together. Jim also leaves his four loving children, Karen L. (Jameson) Savoy of Chester, Craig D. Jameson and his wife Brenda of Chester, Susan L. (Jameson) DeFeo and her husband Jeffrey of Chester, and Glenn C. Jameson and his wife Galina also of Chester. Jim leaves behind nine grandchildren; Deryck A. Savoy and his wife Cindy, Lucas J. Savoy and his wife Kathleen, Andrea L. (Savoy) Lathrop and her husband Jeremy, Jason W. Jameson and his girlfriend Daphne Mower, Kimberly M. Jameson and her boyfriend William Hoffman, Sarah L. DeFeo, Elisha T. Jameson, Benjamin P. Jameson, and Anna M. Jameson and seven great grandchildren as well as his beloved Australian Shepard Ty, who was always at his side or in his vehicle wherever he ventured.
Jim’s sister Patricia A. (Jameson) Darling predeceased him in January of 2018. Jim also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Beverly L. (Longey) Fowler, and Beth L. (Longey) Leiderman, and a brother-in-law Brian (Butch) W. Longey and his wife Gail. Jim started his career working for Eastern States Farmers Exchange before he became a full-time farmer and Agway Representative, delivering Agway products to many farms near and far.
His first farm was in Middlefield, Mass where was a member of the Middlefield Fair Association for many years as well as a Deacon of the Middlefield Congregational Church. Shortly thereafter Jim moved his family to Chester Hill and the farmhouse where he lived the remainder of his life. He farmed beef cows, chickens, goats, and sheep as well as vegetables, fruits and maple syrup.
He enjoyed his “pick your own” fruits and spent many hours happily conversing with his customers either in the “patches” or on his porch. He believed in the “honor system” and would happily leave a bucket for customers to pay for their eggs, syrup or fruit. Jim served on the Electric Light Commission for the Town of Chester for many years and was quite proud when his grandson Deryck, was elected to the commission when he retired.
Jim also served for many years on the Conservation Commission as well as the Planning Board for the Town of Chester. Jim was also honored to have been chosen as a Citizen of the Year for the Chester Hill Association. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Middlefield Congregational Church on Skyline Trail, all are welcome to join us.
In lieu of flowers, his wife Barbara has requested that donations be made to the Chester Hill Association, care of Harry Sanner, 35 Ingell Road, Chester, MA 01011. Jim was very proud and happy to have lived “on the hill” for years.
