OBITUARY Harold Hill August 30, 1930 – October 3, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Harold H. Hill, 88, died on October 3, 2018, at Brookdale Skeet Club Assisted Living in High Point after a brief hospital stay. Born in Trinity on August 30, 1930, he was the son of Pearl Spencer Hill and Alvin H. Hill. His late sister was Emma Mae Hill White.

Harold was married for 65 years to Kay Modlin Hill, who died just two months ago on August 4, 2018. Harold served as a round-the-clock caregiver to Kay for many years as they contended with her Alzheimer’s disease. Though he had growing health challenges these last seven months, he was determined to complete his mission to take care of Kay all he could.

He is survived by his daughter, Lydia Hill of Chapel Hill; son, Loren Hill and his wife Joyce Hill of High Point; and many nieces and nephews, both by blood and by marriage. A graduate of Trinity High School, Harold retired from the Jamestown branch of the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as both mail carrier and postal clerk for more than 35 years. Harold served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was shot in the neck as his tour of duty was days from being completed. Told he was eligible for the Purple Heart if he were willing to stay in Korea a few extra days to handle paperwork, he wisely chose to return home instead. His family honored him just a few weeks ago with a replica of the Purple Heart, which he wore proudly.

He loved working in his yard and garden and was proud to show off the grounds of his Sherrill Avenue home, where he and Kay lived for 59 years. He was a talented handyman who took care of nearly every home project for himself and his family. Visitation will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018, at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E.
