Harold C. Pfost died peacefully at Graceful Living on July 26, 2018 in Arroyo Grande, California at the age of 93. Harold is survived by his children, John G. Pfost of Utah; Richard A. Pfost (Kerry) of Arroyo Grande, California; Susan K. Pfost (Richard Marksberry) of Herndon, Virginia; and Liz Howland (Keith), 9 grandchildren, and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lynn Pfost of Shell Beach, California.

Harold was born on March 13, 1925 in Blythe, California to Wesley and Edith Pfost and raised in the Palo Verde Valley, California. After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he graduated from Cal Poly in 1953 with a degree in Soil Science. He married Edalyn Ewell of Blythe, a dietician in 1948.

They settled in Shell Beach where he began working for the California Dept. of Highways (Caltrans) within the design department, retiring in 1987. From 1950 through 1963, the couple welcomed four children into their home.

His children, nieces, nephews, other family and children’s friends remember him as an intelligent, well read, well-grounded moral family man who encouraged others to do what was right. Harold was respected for his knowledge, experience, and manner at the Department of Highways. He was a principled, welcoming individual who loved to discuss politics, history, or the on-going events of the day.

He enjoyed recalling many of his experiences of days growing up in the desert, meeting Lynn, serving in the Pacific during World War II, and sharing in the lives of his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews. He will be missed by those who knew him. No funeral is planned as per his wishes.
