Obituary for Hasso Bacher Hasso Bacher passed away on July 3rd, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 71 years. Hasso was born on December 12, 1946 in Schwerin, Germany to Lothar and Erika Bacher, the eldest of two sons. He is survived by his wife Geraldine (Gerrie), his brother Roland, his two sons Marcus and Oliver, and his granddaughter Alexis.

Born in 1946, Hasso’s early childhood years were spent in the shadow of Soviet occupation in East Germany. After the family successfully relocated to West Germany in the early 50s, Hasso grew up alongside the Rhine River in Bonn-Bad Godesberg. Though apprenticed as an electrician, he pursued a career in global logistics and transport, which saw him working with leading European airline carriers like KLM, Air France, and Lufthansa and enjoying travel to transport hubs worldwide.

A job transfer facilitated a move across the Atlantic landing him and his first wife Ulrike (Julie) in New York in 1972, and then Southern California in 1974, where they eventually settled in Fountain Valley to start a family. He spent the rest of his career in California, perplexingly relocating to Compton and then San Diego to be with his second wife Geraldine Cole whom he married in 1998. After a 25-year career in logistics, Hasso and Gerrie retired to Tucson, Arizona in 2005 where the couple enjoyed exploring the southwest’s culinary and natural landscapes.

Though health limited his mobility in his later years, he stayed current with world news and events, peppering grumpy emails and conversations with blunt opinions and wry humor. Hasso was an avid traveler who loved and appreciated different cultures. A passionate Los Angeles Kings hockey fan, he instilled in his sons a lifelong interest in the sport.

He will be remembered for his reckless fun-loving nature, his eccentric sense of fashion, affection for animals, love of German history, arts, and culture, and enthusiasm for airplanes and cars. A private memorial service will be held in celebration and remembrance of his life in the Catalina Mountains northeast of Tucson.
