Hazel Dickmann, 96, of Anderson, passed away on May 1, 2019 at Primrose Memory Care. Hazel was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and she was everyone’s friend. Quick to praise, always appreciative and very generous, Hazel brightened the lives of all she touched.

Discouraging words were not in her vocabulary. She was born on November 6, 1922 in Leon, Kansas, moving with her family to Indiana when she was 6 years old. After graduation from Shoals High School in 1940, she attended Indiana Business College in Indianapolis.

She was Assistant Personnel Director for Container Corporation in Anderson. She and Charles H. Dickmann were married at Anderson First United Methodist Church in 1956. Hazel was active in the religious, cultural and civic life of Anderson for over 50 years.

She served as President of United Methodist Women and as a member of the Administrative Board of First United Methodist Church in Anderson. She was a member of Hawthorne Literary Club for almost 46 years and had served as President. She was active in Community Chest, United Fund Campaigns, Tri Kappa Sorority and St. John’s Hospital Victoria Guild.

Hazel served on the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurse Association. She was a Director and Secretary of the Anderson Fine Arts Foundation and past president of Antique Study Club. Hazel and Charlie established 13 permanent endowment funds with the Madison County Community Foundation.

Hazel also enjoyed reading, antiquing, interior design, gardening, art, and cooking. She and Charlie enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and 72 foreign countries. Hazel is survived by her daughters, Judy (Jim) Brenner, Amy Jo (Doug) Zeigler; grandsons, Frank and John (Jackie) Brenner and Hugh and George Zeigler; great-grandson, Bradley Brenner; siblings, Joyce Ann Day and Marion Winkel and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles Henry Dickmann; parents, Webster “Ray” and Lula (Blackwell) Winkel; siblings, Violet Winkel, Velma Clayton, Susie Pollard, Glenn Winkel, Raymond Winkel, and Phyllis York. Special thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff at Primrose Retirement Community and Memory Care. Services will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 1:00pm at First United Methodist Church, 1215 Jackson Street, Anderson, IN 46016 with Pastor Corinne Boruff officiating.

Visitation begins one hour prior to the service. The family invites friends to join them after the service for refreshments and conversation. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to First United Methodist Church of Anderson or to the Madison County Community Foundation.
