WRIGHT, Mrs. Helen D., -Age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at her residence in Las Vegas, NV. Family Hour will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd. , with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Marvin A. Jennings, Sr., officiating.

Interment Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, G-2020 E. Hill Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church at 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Wright will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd.

and may be viewed from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Helen Demillious Wright was born June 10, 1936 in Nashville, North Carolina, the daughter of Willie and Alice (Avent) Carter. She accepted God in her life at a very early age at Social Union Baptist Church in Nashville, North Carolina.

A graduate of Swift Creek High School in 1954, she later married and relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1955. Mrs. Wright was a faithful member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church and was still performing various duties at the church until her health failed her. Mrs. Wright retired from the Food Services Department at Hurley Medical Center in 1983 after 25 years of service.

She then enjoyed bowling on multiple leagues as well as traveled all around the United States competing in tournaments. After several years of bowling, she then started a small business and was a Wedding Planner for a few years. She took up upholstery and really enjoyed reupholstering furniture.

Continuing to stay busy, Mrs. Wright began to deliver newspapers for the Flint Journal for many years. Until her health failed her last year, she had been employed with Right at Home for 8 years. In August 2018, she moved to Las Vegas, NV to live with family; there she enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and playing the slot machines at the casinos.

She was also a self-taught seamstress who also enjoyed cooking family holiday dinners when she was much younger. Mrs. Wright leaves to cherish her memory: son, Mr. & Mrs. Danny T. (Oundrea) Wright of Henderson, NV; daughter, Katrenia (Raymond) Wright-Bussie of Las Vegas, NV; 7 grandchildren, Collins J. Wright, La’Reonte “Dizzy” Wright, G’Juana Wright-Dozier, Kelvin J. Dozier and K’Vonn S. Dozier all of Las Vegas, NV; Kele’ A. Wright of Richmond, VA; La’Rienzo O. Wright of Atlanta, GA; 6 great grandchildren (5 of Las Vegas, NV and 1 of Flint, MI); 5 sisters, Mrs. Vernice (Joe) Wright, Mrs. Ada Jones both of Flint, MI; Mrs. Lavern Cates of Lexington, SC; Mrs. Vira Lynch of Nashville, NC; Mrs. Beatrice (Ben) Evans of Enfield, NC; 2 brothers, Willie D. (Linda) Carter of Rocky Mount, NC and Willian E. (Gwendolyn) Powell of Baltimore, MD; 6 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Mathis, Mrs. Mamie Wallace, Mrs. Irene Wright, Mrs. Bettie Wright and Mrs. Margaret Wright all of Flint, MI; Mrs. Elma (Turner) Gray of Halifax, NC; 1 brother-in-law, Mr. Bernard (Lillie) Wright of Flint, MI; 1 God-son, Sherod Wright; 3 extended family members, Ms. Pamela Edwards of Savannah, GA; Ms. Jordayne Echols and Ms. Stephanie Calderon of Las Vegas, NV; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends including the Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church Family, Mrs. Gladys Peoples Baker of Stafford, VA; Mrs. Ella Twitty and Mrs. Evelyn Thomas of Flint, MI; Mr. & Mrs. Darren (Kim) Wade of West Chester, OH. Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by: her husband of 53 years, Charles E. Wright; her son, Kelvin T. Wright; grandson, Dairen D. Wright; great-granddaughter, A’miya K. Moses; Parents, Willie (Alice) Carter; 4 brothers-in-law, John, Leo, William and Moses Wright; 4 sisters-in-law, Gladys, Mary Ethel, Vera and Lauren Wright.
