Obituary for Helen Evelyn Seitz Born in San Jose, CA, Helen grew up in the San Francisco area where she worked as a telephone operator. In 1943, she married her lifelong love, Wallace Seitz, a soldier from Maybee, MI training nearby. When he was sent overseas, she transferred her job to Monroe to await his return.

A city girl, she bravely faced the challenges of a new home in a farming community across the country from her family, a first encounter with snow, and then the horror of a telegram stating Wallace was MIA. After his miraculous return from POW captivity, they settled in Newport, raising four children. They lived in Flat Rock and Ypsilanti, before moving to Saline in their latter years where they continued their longtime membership in the United Methodist Church.

They enjoyed 68 years of marriage until his death in 2011. Helen most recently resided in Rochester Hills. After the birth of their children, Helen devoted her entire life to her family’s care.

Known for always welcoming the neighborhood children, and no one ever left her home hungry. She will be dearly missed by her son Allen Seitz and wife, Lois, of Monroe, daughters Alyce Caudill of Troy, Joyce Neifert of Santa Rosa, CA, son-in-law Donald Clapper, grandchildren Mark (Ruth) Seitz, Brian Seitz, Patrick (Heather) Clapper, Bradley (Charity) Clapper, Jessica Clapper, Tara Caudill-Deaton, Todd (Kristin) Caudill, Alex Neifert, Scott Neifert, and brother-in-law Dale Seitz. She is also survived by 11 beloved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Darlene and sons-in-law, Doyce Caudill and Stephen Neifert.
