Helen L. Shaffer, 102, lifelong resident of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Bethania Home Care Assisted Living in Westminster. Born September 11, 1915 in Westminster, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Katherine Jordan Witte. She was predeceased by her husband, Aaron J. Shaffer; daughter, Donna Hopkins; and by 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

She was a graduate of Shenandoah Valley Academy in New Market, VA. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, bird watching and reading. She was a charter member of the Westminster Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Surviving are her son-in-law, Howard P. Hopkins and wife Vivian of Westminster; nieces, Jean Sealover of Westminster and Olga Williams of Takoma Park; nephew, Hubert Garman of Warsaw, VA. Services and burial will be private at St. John’s (Leisters) Lutheran Cemetery in Westminster. Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster.
