Helen Mae Akins, 83, of Elderton, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. A daughter of the late Charles and Pearl (Claypool) Thomas, she was born October 15, 1935 in Manor Township. Helen was a housewife and enjoyed canning and baking.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Akins; daughter, Nancy and husband Ed Rankin, of Atwood; son, Don Akins, of Kittanning; grandchildren, Nicole Kincade and husband, Matt, of Sarver, Eric Rankin and wife, Brandi, of Atwood, and Krissy Akins; and great-grandchildren, Dereck, Dylan, and Evianna. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Thomas; sister, Linda Cujas; and grandson, Thomas Story Akins.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning from 3 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Carl Johnson of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Ford City Cemetery.
