Henry Hank Murray, July 19, 1954 — October 16, 2018

Obituary for Henry ”Hank” Murray Henry Murray of Eltingville, passed suddenly on October 16, 2018 at his vacation home in the Catskills. A retired NYPD detective, Henry was a man of courage, integrity and wisdom. He entered the Police Academy in 1979.

His many assignments included NSU, the 7th Precinct, 9th Precinct Robbery Squad, and 1st & 122nd Precinct Detective Squads. Henry retired in 1999 as a 2nd Grade Detective. From 1999-2002 he was a Senior Investigator at The Special Commission of Investigation and from 2003-2016 he worked for TSA as a Security Supervisor and Cargo Inspector.

He was a rock to his wife, Carole and children, Brian, Kathleen Maklari (Danny) and Meagan, whom he lovingly guided through life. He enjoyed traveling, particularly exploring America, and had also visited over 15 foreign countries. In his spare time Henry liked reading, walking, fishing and hiking.

He looked forward to spending summers in the Catskill Mountains. He also enjoyed spending time with his respected co-workers and friends at Joyce’s Tavern, his favorite Irish pub. Henry was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the NYPD Emerald Society.

In addition to his wife and children, Henry is survived by his grandson Hunter Maklari, his siblings, Mary Gittins, Michael Murray, Rosanna Gross, Jeanette Murray and his brother in law, Richard Gurski. He was predeceased by his sister in law, Debbie Gurski. Henry is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be from the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd. (at Eltingville Station). A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 5730 Amboy Road.
