Herbert L. Holtgren, Jr. June 24, 1934 – April 26, 2019 Herbert L. Holtgren, Jr., 84, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 at 9:44 am in Franciscan Health – Michigan City, IN. Private burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN.

A celebration of life service will take place at a later date. He was born June 24, 1934 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Herbert L. and Pearl (White) Holtgren, Sr. On February 15, 1973 in Michigan City, IN he married Helen (Himes) Holtgren who preceded him in death on April 20, 2000. Surviving are sister, Romayne Chase (Holtgren) of Kankakee, IL; half-sister, Peggy (Bell) and Gale Thayer of Alma, MI; niece, Catherine (Chase) and Bill Aurdal of Cedar Rapids, IA; nephew, Leslie “Les” and Jane Chase of Ada, MI; niece, Anita (Chase) and James Kotter of El Paso, TX; Daniel and Rachel Thayer of Colorado; niece, Sherry (Thayer) and Jeremy Feltman of Mt.

Pleasant, MI; 17 great nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews Herbert retired after 30 years as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of The Salvation Army, National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 1201 Franklin St. Michigan City, IN 46360.
