Herbert E. Radaker, 88, of Licking Twp. , Parker, Pa. , passed away at his home on November 25, 2018.
Born July 10, 1930, in Licking Twp. , Parker Pa. , he was the son of late Rev.
Ralph J. and Mary Grace Kilgore Radaker. He graduated from Meadville High School in 1948, then attained a B.S. Degree in Education from the former Clarion State College, now University (1957) and a Master’s Degree from Westminster College in School Administration. He also continued to his education to obtain both Secondary and Elementary Principals Certificates.
He taught first at Union School District in Rimersburg, Pa and then moved to Allegheny Clarion – Valley School District, Foxburg, Pa. , as a school administrator. Drafted into the United States Army on January 17, 1952 (Korean Conflict) at Ft.
Dix, Nj. , in February 1953 he graduated from the infantry School (OCS) Ft. Benning, GA.
as 2nd Lt. and assigned as a Tactics Instructor with the 101st Airborne Division. After being released from Active Duty he continued in the Reserve Program (323rd Cml.
Co. of Clarion, Pa) attended the Chemical Corp. School at Ft McClellan, Al. Then being recalled to Active Duty during the Berlin Crisis.
He was then reassigned to the 485th Chemical Battalion and was promoted to the rank of Lt. Col. , as there Commanding Officer.
In 1971 he graduated from the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Ks. He had 27 and half years of Active and Reserve Duty.
On January 19, 1981, he was awarded “The Meritorious Service Medal”. He received the “Certificate of Retirement” from the The United States Army on July 10, 1990. He was Past Master of Canby Lodge #520 of St. Petersburg, Pa.
, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Oil City and New Castle, Pa. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 0598. In his youth, he was an avid baseball player, once receiving a baseball signed by Honus Wagner.
He even had a tri-out with the Cleveland Indians. In 1948, he turned his interest to golf and was a member of the Foxburg Country Club for many years. He enjoyed farming, hunting and word work.
He served Callensburg Borough as their Justice of the Peace for over 10 years and continued an Income Tax practice for over 35 years, He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Donna Lou Johns, his son Jeffrey, and his sister Evelyn Imogene McGuirk. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Byron C. Radaker Friends will be received at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home in Parker (201 S. Wayne Ave) on Tuesday November 27th from 6-8pm.
A masonic service by the Parker Loge will be held at the funeral home at 8pm . Visitation will be held again on Wednesday the 28th from 10-11am at the funeral home preceding the Military Honors at 11am followed by the funeral service. Interment will follow at the Callensburg Cemetery.
