Obituary for Hillard Wallace Hillard Wallace, 96, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2018 at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born November 18, 1922, in Ohio County, KY to the late Vina K. Wallace. At the age of 12, soon after his mother’s passing, it was left to Hillard to raise his siblings.

Hillard was a War II Army veteran, having served during the Battle of the Bulge and was an example of honor, truth and justice. While serving, he earned the American Theatre Ribbon, the ETO Ribbon and 3 Bronze Service Stars, along with a Good Conduct Medal. Hillard, seeking entertainment, enjoyed his weekly outings to the V.F.W. Post #3281 every Friday night to dance.

Hillard met the love of his life, Helen Lindsey, at Mammoth Cave National Park. They were united in marriage on May 18, 1942 in Louisville and together they had two children, sharing 58 wonderful years together, until her passing in 1996. He was a truck driver for Reynolds Metals for 41 years, never missing a day, until his retirement in 1987.

Hillard was musically inclined, with a passion for Ernest Tubb and Hank Williams, Sr He played guitar by ear with the best and every night before going to bed, he always played “Wild Wood Flower”. Vina, his mother taught Hillard at a young age to be honest.

He was a very dapper dresser and his famous last words were “Treat every man as a crook, and an honest man won’t mind”. In addition to his mother and beloved wife, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, R.C., Charles and Leonard Ray Wallace; sister, Martine Tischor; and son-in-law Nolan Kuhn. Left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter, Helen Kuhn; son, Jimmy (Betty) Wallace; grandchildren, Heather Kuhn, Nolan (Allison) Kuhn II, Kevin Wallace, Tony Wallace, Kristy (Mark) Weber, Brandon (Molly) Wallace; and great- grandchildren, Mason and Maddox Kuhn, Landon and Zoe Weber, Terri Lynn, Jude, and Lydia Wallace and his two nieces, Lorre Depp and Tina Wallace of Chicago.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Saturday, January 5, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3345 Lexington Road (at the corner of Lexington Rd at Cannons Lane), Louisville, KY 40206. The family will receive visitors from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2018 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews”. In keeping with Hillard’s wishes, please make a visit to your local Nursing or Senior Citizens Facility and visit with the residents and spend time with those who have no family.
