Obituary for Richard Leo “Mac” McDaniel McDaniel, Richard Leo “Mac”, 95, of Louisville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 14th, at the Franciscan Health Care Center. He was born October 28, 1923, in Louisville, to the late George and Mary McDaniel. Mac was a proud graduate of St. Xavier High School in 1941.

After serving in the Marine Corp, he spent 39 years working for Louisville Gas & Electric Company and retired in 1986. He was a devoted parish member of the former St. Basil, St. Barnabus and St. John Paul II Catholic Churches. During retirement, he spent many hours volunteering for various religious organizations and at the information booth located in the Louisville Regional Airport.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Mildred (Nan) Teresa McDaniel, stepson Steven Schaffner, step son-in-law Richard Martin and his second wife of 7 years, Georgia (Willis) McDaniel. Mac is survived by his stepdaughter Joyce Martin of Louisville; step daughter-in-law Shella Schaffner of Virginia Beach; grandchildren Kim Blanks (Joey) of San Pedro, CA, Steven Schaffner (Becky) of Nashville, Nick Schaffner of Virginia Beach and Steve Martin (Chandra) of Louisville; great-grandchildren Kyle, RJ, Steven, Aaron, Amanda, Teddy, Emily, Michael and Paige. His funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday December 19, 2018 at Ratterman Funeral Home 3711 Lexington Rd.

“In St. Matthews” with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or the WHAS Crusade for Children.
