Obituary for Hope M. Martino (Esty) Print MARTINO, Hope M, (Estey) Age 92, wife of the late Vinnie Martino, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 16, 2019. Hope was born on September 30th, 1926 in Somerville, MA, a daughter of the late Roland H. and Antoinette D. (Lessard) Estey. She was one of four children, including Roland Estey (deceased), Babe Doubleday (deceased) and Howard Estey (deceased) Hope was a graduate of Somerville Hospital School of Nursing and began her career as a registered nurse at Somerville Hospital in 1947.

Later, at age 45, she would attend Northeastern University where she earned her degree as a Nurse Practitioner. Hope proudly served her country as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy Corps from 1949 to 1952. On April 13th 1952, in Somerville, she married Vinnie Martino who she met at Chelsea Naval Hospital where he was a patient after being wounded in the Korean War.

Hope truly loved being a nurse and being a mother. While they were raising their family Hope held part time nursing jobs at Somerville Hospital and Mass General Hospital as well as eventually becoming a City of Somerville School Nurse and later as the Head Nurse for the Somerville Board of Health. All of these jobs were carefully planned and selected in order to makes sure that she could attend to her family’s needs first.

In her free time, she enjoyed watching her beloved Red Sox, shopping and reading. She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Kathy of Harwichport, Ma; and her daughter Ann and her husband Jeff of Arlington, Ma. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Christopher, Eric, Brian, Lindsay, Jason and Mark; as well as 6 great grandchildren Matty, Caroline, Vinnie, Josie, Frankie and Aria.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Eulalia Church 50 Ridge St. Winchester on Wednesday February 20th at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Please go directly go to church.
