Howard Jones Swapp, 80, of Sandy, Utah passed away at his home in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 12, 2018 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. As he suffered the effects of that terrible disease, Howard remained ever cheerful and happy, easily and often expressing love and gratitude to each family member. He was born August 13, 1937 in Murray, Utah to James Lorin and Loretta Jones Swapp.

He married the love of his life, Annette Rawson, on October 1, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. Howard grew up in Midvale, Utah and graduated from Jordan High School in 1955. Howard was the senior class president and thoroughly enjoyed planning and attending many high school reunions.

Early in his marriage, he served in the Utah National Guard. Howard had a successful career in the Banking industry. He retired from Zions Bank in 2001.

Howard had a great love of all sports. He was a gifted athlete and a supportive spectator and fan. One of his greatest joys in life was watching his children and grandchildren, whether it be sports, dance, or music endeavors.

His summer evenings were often spent cheering on grandsons at baseball games of which he never tired. He served in many positions in the LDS church, he especially loved serving the youth. He loved his time in the Temple as an ordinance worker at both Jordan River and Draper Utah Temples.

He and his sweetheart served a mission at the Conference Center on Temple Square for three years. Howard was a very friendly man and enjoyed conversing with family, friends and even complete strangers. He made friends easily and valued his relationships immensely.

His bright blue eyes and cheery disposition will be missed by many. At the time of his passing Howard was a High Priest in the Union 5th Ward of the Cottonwood Creek Stake. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Annette; five of his six children: Shannon (Michael) Walker, Orem, UT; Craig (Susan) Swapp, Sandy, UT; Susan (Bob) Boyle, Draper, UT; David (Stacy) Swapp, Sandy, UT; Bryan (Kerrie) Swapp, Herriman, UT; 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister Colleen (Tom) Winther, Murray, UT.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Lorin and Loretta Swapp, siblings Shirl Swapp, James Swapp, Lorna Olsen, Renee Jensen and son Howard Jones Swapp Jr. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 11 am at the Forest Bend LDS Chapel located at 1975 E. Forest Bend Drive, Cottonwood Heights, Utah 84124. Friends may call Monday evening, June 18, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Goff Mortuary located at 8090 South State Street in Midvale and at the Forest Bend Chapel on Tuesday June 19, 2018 one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place at Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.) Sandy, Utah 84092.

The family wishes to thank the many friends, neighbors, medical providers and associates who have shown compassion and love for Howard during his illness.
