OBITUARY Howard “Lee” William Payne August 9, 1952 – December 20, 2018 Howard “Lee” William Payne, 65, departed to his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 20, 2018 in Richmond, VA, after a long and valiant battle with illness. His devotion to his family and firm faith in the Lord supported and gave him strength during his fight. Howard was born to the late Judson and Willie Payne in Norfolk, VA, on August 9, 1952.

He attended Fairfield Union High School, Class of 1971. Howard served in the United States Air Force from 1971-1979 and as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War. Howard graduated from the Lancaster Police Academy in 1980, and served as a Captain for the Bremen Police Department for four years.

He worked in telecommunications for over thirty years, eventually accepting a position as Vice President. Howard was an usher and a member of Victory Tabernacle Church of God in Midlothian, VA, where he loved to serve the Lord. He enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, and wood-work.

Howard was blessed with a large, loving family. He married the love of his life, Deborah Spangler-Payne, on December 19, 1980, in Bremen, OH. They have shared thirty-eight years of blissful marriage together.

Howard loved and cherished his four daughters and twenty-one grandchildren, always trying to bring them joy and laughter. He will be remembered for his humor- always making people smile, and his faith, passion, and love for his Savior. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones- who also celebrate that he has been united in glory with his Creator.

Howard is survived by his wife Deborah Spangler-Payne; his sister Carol (Chuck) Angle; his daughters Tabitha (Kim) Jones, Brandi (Ron) Sartoph, Gigi (Gammy) Robles, Toneka Lynlee (Nathan) Cooper; his grandchildren Cameron, Nicholas, Ayla,Megan, David, Savannah,Ashley, Jacob, Jackson, Tristan, Alanah, Saedi, Chace, Evangelyne, Tenli, Jubili, Vaerity, Soveryn, Everhett, Wyhett; and his great-granddaughter Mary Jane. He is preceded in death by his parents Judson Calis Payne & Willie Helen Jones-Payne; brother and sister-in-law Charles & Nancy Payne, and his beloved dogs Bodhi, and Cookie & Cookie. Viewing will take place at Woody’s Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd.

, Midlothian, VA, on January 3, 2019 from 4PM – 8PM. Funeral Service will be held at Victory Tabernacle Church of God, 11700 Genito Rd. , Midlothian, VA, on January 4, 2019 at 11:00AM.

Reverend David R. Price will officiate the service. Burial will take place directly following at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, VA.
