Obituary for Ila F. Roper Ila F. Roper Kearney Resident Ila F. Roper, 87, of Kearney, formerly of Amherst, died Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Mother Hull Home in Kearney. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Reverend Melody Adams will officiate.

A private family inurnment will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Ila Fern (Bowden) Roper was born on February 25, 1931 in Sumner, Nebraska to Thomas Willard and Agnes Irene (Trumbull) Bowden. She grew up in Sumner and received her education from Sumner High School. She was united in marriage to Zale Roper on November 25, 1947 in Norton, Kansas, and to this union five children were born: Perry, Larry, Dennis, Timothy and Lisa.

The family made their home in Sumner. In 1960 they moved to Poole, Nebraska where the family continued to farm until moving to Kearney and opening the Roper Holiday Standard Service Station in 1965. Ila and Zale owned and operated the station until 1977, at which time they opened Roper Radiator Shop.

The couple moved to an acreage outside of Amherst in 1990 and recently returned to Kearney. Zale preceded Ila in death on March 4, 2018. Ila was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kearney and a past member of the DOES and the Rebekah’s Lodge.

She enjoyed fishing, camping, doing crafts and attending grandchildren’s events. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Perry L. Roper and his wife, Karen of Summer Haven Lake and Denny G. Roper and his wife, Lori of Amherst; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Ila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Zale; daughter, Lisa Marie Roper; two sons, Larry and Timothy Roper; grandson, Ryan Roper; sister, Ilis Jean Burr; brother, Thomas Bowden; and two half-sisters, Pearl Vollmer and Myrna Todd.
