OBITUARY Imogene L. Spencer August 28, 1928 – November 3, 2018 Imogene L. Spencer went to be with the Lord on 11/03/2018. Born August 8, 1928 to Earl Gabbard and May Reel Gabbard in Peggs, OK, she attended schools in Tulsa, OK. While working at Vandevers Department Store in Tulsa, she met Donald L. Spencer (Don) in early 1946.

They were married in Leavenworth, KS on 12/07/1946. She and Don moved to Coos Bay, OR in the summer of 1949 with their first son, Donald Jr., living in the Coos Bay area for the next 18 yrs. In 1967, the family, now with three sons, Donald Jr,, Robert, and William, moved to Beaverton, OR.

In 1988, after retiring, Imogene and Don moved to Whale Cove on the Oregon Coast. In 1990, they made their final move to Salemtowne Retirement Community in Salem, OR. After Don’s death in 2012, Imogene moved back to Beaverton to reside at Hearthstone at Murrayhill.

Imogene was the ultimate homemaker and hostess. Her life was dedicated to her husband and the support of her children. Also known in the family as “Nana,” she was an awesome cook, always open to showing her daughter-in laws a few tricks of the trade, and treating her granddaughters to goodies from the kitchen and the special “Nana candy stash”.

Holidays were always a special time, and Imogene’s extra effort and attention to detail was always appreciated. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. Reunions with extended family coming from all over the United States to rendezvous in some of Oregon’s most scenic places were regular events during the 1980’s and 1990’s and Imogene was always at the center of making sure things were done right, with lots of love, smiles and a quick, sweet sense of humor.

Her husband, Don, had four brothers and five sisters. Imogene was the last of that group, including the spouses, to survive. Her passing marks the end of a generation that their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will miss greatly.

Imogene is proceeded in death by her husband of almost 66 years (Don), sister (Pauline), and brothers (Audie and Robert). She is survived by her sons (Donald Jr., Robert, and William), brother (Ted), sister (Billye), granddaughters (Audrey, Angela, and Sarah), and great grandson (Donny). A graveside service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on 11/20/2018 at 1:00pm.
