CAMPBELL – Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 26, 2019 at 9:30a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church, with Fr. Michael Swierz officiating for Irene B. Jamrozik, 91, who passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019, at Maplecrest Nursing Home in Struthers. Irene, fondly known as ‘Renee,’ was born in Campbell on March 10, 1927, the daughter of Gabor and Mary (Horvath) Sass.

Renee attended Campbell Memorial High School and was a lifelong resident of Campbell. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph the Provider Parish, where she was active as a lector at mass, Eucharistic minister, and volunteered her time helping with pierogi every week. For 25 years, Renee would distribute Holy Communion for patients at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.

She was recognized back in 2016 as being the longest-living breast cancer survivor at the Junior League of Youngstown’s 22nd annual Pink Ribbon Tea. At the time she was a 48-year survivor of breast cancer. Renee’s husband, Walter Jamrozik, whom she married on December 30, 1944, passed away January 18, 1987.

She cared for him during his 40-year battle with multiple sclerosis, while taking care of her son, Dennis, who was born with brain injuries, who passed away at 24 years-old. Renee was preceded in death by her husband, her son, and her brothers, Jim Sass, Joe Nagy, sisters Rose Palen, Ann Schnell, Elizabeth ‘Bea’ Malutic, and Dolores Tomchik. She leaves to cherish her beloved memory, a son, Richard D. Jamrozik, and daughter-in-law, Paulette; grandson, Richard (Liz) Jamrozik; granddaughter, Rebecca (Michael) Mickler; great-grandson, Michael R. Mickler; sister-in-law, Mary Sass; sister-in-law, Teresa Jamrozik; brother-in-law, Jim Ruffalo, and many nieces and nephews.

Renee had an impeccable sense of style and grace, and was the life of every family event. She planned many family reunions over the years, and also enjoyed shopping trips to the mall and TJ Maxx. She also was very proud of her Hungarian heritage, enjoyed dancing, and playing cards with friends and family.

She opened her home to anyone, and was known for her homemade cooking and baking. Most notable was her kolachi. She always said that ‘you can tell how giving someone was by how much filling they put in their kolachi’.

Renee’s kolachi was always filled! Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson, and was looking forward to the birth of her first great-granddaughter in June. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Michael Malmer and his staff, All Care Hospice, and Dr. Santuccio Ricciardi and the staff at Maplecrest Nursing Home for their care and compassion given to our mother.

Calling Hours will be Monday February 25, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell. Family and friends may visit the tribute wall at www. waskofamily.com to view this tribute and send condolences to Renee’s family.
