Obituary for Iris “Gwen” Carey Patrick Iris “Gwen” Eaton (Carey) Patrick, 90, was born August 10, 1928 in Toronto, Canada. Her father was born in Malpas, England and her mother was born in Dunfermline, Scotland. She moved to Orlando with her parents and younger brother Albert in 1947.

She is predeceased by her parents and brother, as well as her sons Lee and Michael Carey. Gwen was a beautiful young lady and her photograph appeared several times in the Orlando Sentinel holding strings of freshly caught fish from area fishermen. She worked at the downtown cigar and soda store in the 1940’s and later became a homemaker when her boys were little.

She reentered the workforce in the 1960’s and was the bookkeeper and office manager for the Roses store and later retired from Bergen Brunswig. Gwen proudly became a United States citizen in 1994. While celebrating this special occasion, she was presented with a United States flag, by her friend and neighbor Sherry, a retired U.S. Army Veteran.

Gwen enjoyed hymns, classical music, animals, and visiting friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James Patrick; daughter, Kathy McBride and her husband Willie of Orlando, and her only grandson, Derek of Orlando. A memorial service honoring her life will be held at a later date.
