Irma Theresa Chounard was born October 20, 1938 in Anoka, MN, the daughter of Alcidos and Margaret (Costello) Chounard. She grew up in the Anoka area and graduated from Anoka High School in 1956. Irma moved to Nebraska for a time before returning to the Minneapolis area.

Irma worked for Munsingwear and Univac in the Twin Cities. She moved to Alexandria, MN for a short time. Irma returned to Anoka and worked for Federal Cartridge.

In 1963 Irma was united in marriage to Thomas Moriarty. They were blessed with one son, Michael. The couple made their home in Minneapolis until moving to Brandon, MN in 1978 where they ran a hobby farm.

Irma worked at the 3M plant in Alexandria. In 1992 they moved off of the farm to a home in Alexandria. Irma retired from 3M in 1998.

Irma loved to read, do cross-stitch work and work on puzzles. She like going fishing in the summer. Irma really enjoyed the time she spent having lunches and playing cards with a group of retirees from 3M.

Most important to Irma was her family; she loved being able to spend time with them. Irma took every opportunity she could to spoil her son, daughter-in-law and grandson. On Thursday, May 31, 2018 Irma died at the age of seventy-nine years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Thomas Moriarty; sister, Elaine Haller; and brothers. Victor and Richard Chounard. Irma is survived by her son, Michael Moriarty and wife, Debbie, of New Brighton, MN; grandson, Sean Moriarty of Brooklyn Park, MN; sisters, Harriet Jones and husband, Dale, of Walker, MN, Ann Estenson and husband, William, of Walker and Jean Anderson and husband, Kenneth, of Laughlin, NV; and one brother-in-law, Donald Haller of Mount Home.

AR. A memorial mass will be held 11 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria. Interment will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Brandon.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN.
